Overview & Description
The Dwarf Korean Lilac (Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’) is a charming, compact shrub known for its uniform, rounded shape and non-suckering growth habit. Its small, glossy, dark green leaves provide a lush backdrop during the growing season. While some sources indicate fall color is not remarkable, others note it may turn a reddish bronze or orange-red in autumn. In late spring, the shrub bursts into bloom with masses of fragrant, single lavender-pink flowers, creating a stunning and aromatic display that attracts pollinators like butterflies and bees. It is highly resistant to powdery mildew.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, bushy, rounded-oval to low-spreading growth habit. It is a slow-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 to 5 feet in height with a spread of 5 to 7 feet. It can also be grafted on a standard to form a small tree reaching up to 8 feet tall.
Additional Notes
It blooms in late spring. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, is drought-tolerant once established, and deer-resistant. Perfect for small spaces, this dwarf lilac is an excellent choice for hedging, borders, foundation plantings.
