Overview & Description
Edward J. Gardner French Lilac (Syringa vulgaris ‘Edward J. Gardner’) is widely regarded as one of the best double pink lilacs available, prized for its fragrant, light pink, long-lasting blooms that appear in late spring. The beautiful flowers are highlighted by heart-shaped, bright green foliage, creating an elegant display. This exceptional variety blooms later in spring than other lilacs, extending the lilac season, and its flowers make an excellent cut flower for arrangements.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits an upright, rounded, multi-stemmed growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 10 – 12 feet in height with a spread of 6 – 8 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in late spring, later than many other lilacs. Hardy to Zone 3, it tolerates drought once established and prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for hedges, screens, borders, mass plantings, specimens, and cut flower gardens where deer resistant double light pink blooms, late-season flowering, and extended lilac fragrance are desired.
