Overview & Description
Sweetheart Lilac (Syringa x hyacinthiflora ‘Sweetheart’) is a tall, upright, early-blooming deciduous shrub prized for its fragrant, double pale-pink blooms. Double rose-pink buds open to reveal the soft pink flowers, which are beautifully contrasted by dark green, heart-shaped foliage. This early-flowering variety extends the lilac season, offering classic fragrance and colour before many other lilacs begin to bloom.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a tall, upright, rounded growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 8 – 10 feet in height with a spread of 5 – 6.5 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in early spring, earlier than many common lilacs. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought tolerant once established and prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for hedges, screens, borders, mass plantings, and fragrance gardens where early-blooming, fragrant double pale-pink flowers, dark green foliage, and upright form are desired.
