Overview & Description

The Madame Lemoine French Lilac (Syringa vulgaris ‘Madame Lemoine’) is a classic, elegant shrub renowned for its stunning display of fragrant, fully double pure white flowers that bloom in showy, compact panicles during late spring. Opening from creamy buds, these lush, aromatic blossoms create a striking visual and sensory experience. Named in honor of the wife of famed French hybridizer Victor Lemoine, this award-winning cultivar is regarded as one of the finest white lilacs and has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Its heart-shaped, light to dark green leaves provide a lovely backdrop throughout the growing season

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits an upright, multi-stemmed, bushy growth habit that becomes spreading with age. It is a medium-sized shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 8 to 10 feet in height with a similar spread of 8 to 10 feet . It grows at a medium rate and can live for approximately 30 years under ideal conditions.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring for 3-4 weeks, and the flowers are excellent for cutting. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil, and is hardy to Zone 3.
