Overview & Description
Summer Wine® Black Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius ‘SMNPMS’ PP30232) is a striking deciduous shrub prized for its near-black, lobed foliage and deep red, upright stems that create dramatic contrast in the landscape. Button-like clusters of white blooms appear in early summer, standing out beautifully against the dark leaves. This improved selection offers superior resistance to powdery mildew, ensuring healthy, reliable performance throughout the growing season.

This variety exhibits an upright, rounded, well-branched growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 5 – 6 feet in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
It blooms in early summer. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought tolerant once established and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Asexual propagation is prohibited. An outstanding choice for hedges, screens, mixed borders, mass plantings, and specimen plantings where near-black foliage, deep red stems, white blooms, and excellent disease resistance are desired.
