Overview & Description

The Ginger Wine Ninebark (Physocarpus o. ‘SMNPOBLR’ PP28695), a standout from the Proven Winners ColorChoice® Shrubs collection, is a dynamic and eye-catching shrub . Its foliage emerges in a vibrant bright orange hue, transitioning to a deep, rich, sparkling burgundy as summer progresses, creating a stunning visual display. In late spring, clusters of delicate white flowers emerge from pink buds and bloom, contrasting beautifully with the bold leaves and aging to bright red seed heads. The peeling tan bark and dark red branches add interesting winter dimension.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a rounded, multi-stemmed growth habit. It is a medium-sized shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 5 to 6 feet in both height and spread. It grows at a medium rate and can live for approximately 30 years.

Additional Notes

It blooms from early to late spring, with flowers excellent for cutting. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 3, it is disease-resistant, low-maintenance, and adaptable to a variety of well-drained soils, including dry and moist locations. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and thrives in full sun to partial shade. An outstanding choice for borders, mass plantings, hedges, or as a striking focal point where dramatic, season-long foliage and easy-care nature are desired.
