Overview & Description
The Annabelle Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’) is a beloved deciduous shrub celebrated for its enormous, snowball-like flower heads of pure white blooms. These stunning mophead clusters can reach up to 12 inches in diameter and appear from early summer into fall, often weighing down the sturdy stems with their impressive size. Its large, serrated, dark green leaves provide a lush backdrop. This cultivar blooms reliably on new wood.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a rounded, spreading, and multi-stemmed growth habit. It typically reaches a mature size of about 3 to 5 feet in height with a similar spread of 4 to 6 feet. It has a fast growth rate.
Additional Notes
It blooms from early summer through fall, with enormous white flower heads. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in partial shade to full sun with adequate moisture and prefers rich, well-drained soil. It is low-maintenance and can be pruned heavily in late winter or early spring without sacrificing flowers. An outstanding choice for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, mixed borders, mass plantings, or as a stunning specimen where long-lasting blooms and elegant simplicity are desired.
