Latin Name: Portulaca grandiflora ‘Sundial’Â
The Portulaca ‘Sundial Mix’ is a drought-tolerant, sun-loving annual prized for its vibrant, rose-like blooms and succulent foliage. Growing 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) tall with a spreading habit, it’s ideal for rock gardens, containers, and hot, dry slopes.
This mix features 1–2 inch (2.5–5 cm) semi-double to double flowers in bold shades of pink, orange, yellow, red, and white, which open in sunlight and close at night or on cloudy days. Its fleshy, needle-like leaves store water, making it heat- and drought-resistant.
Thrives in full sun and poor, well-draining soil; overly fertile soil reduces flowering. Blooms summer to frost with minimal care, attracting bees and butterflies. Deer-resistant and self-seeding in warm climates.
Perfect for xeriscapes or coastal gardens, pair with sedum, blue fescue, or lantana for a low-water display.
