Cosmos-Sonata

Out of Season

Latin Name: Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Sonata’

The Cosmos ‘Sonata’ is a compact, free-flowering annual prized for its profuse blooms and tidy growth habit. Reaching 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) tall, it’s ideal for borders, containers, and cutting gardens, offering a more controlled alternative to taller cosmos varieties.

This cultivar produces semi-double to double daisy-like flowers (2–3 inches wide) in cheerful shades of white, pink, crimson, and lavender, with delicate fern-like foliage. Blooming early summer to frost, it attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while requiring minimal care.

Thriving in full sun and well-draining, even poor soil, ‘Sonata’ is drought- and heat-tolerant once established. Its self-branching habit eliminates the need for staking or pinching.

Perfect for cottage gardens or mass plantings, pair it with zinnias, marigolds, or ornamental grasses for a low-maintenance, high-impact display.
