Overview & Description
The Yellow Broom (Cytisus decumbens) is a very adaptable, low-growing evergreen groundcover prized for its brilliant spring display and tough, resilient nature. In mid to late spring, it is covered in masses of bright yellow, pea-shaped flowers that create a cheerful, eye-catching carpet of colour. Its small, dark green foliage provides a fine-textured backdrop throughout the growing season. This hardy, low-maintenance shrub spreads vigorously, making it an excellent choice for covering slopes and challenging sites.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a prostrate, spreading, mat-forming growth habit. It is a fast-growing groundcover, typically reaching a mature height of only 6 inches with a spread of up to 40 inches.
Additional Notes
It blooms in mid to late spring. Hardy to Zone 3, it is salt-tolerant, drought-tolerant once established, and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for rock gardens, groundcover, slopes, borders, and xeriscapes where vibrant spring colour and tough, adaptable performance are desired.
