Overview & Description

The Common Weeping Caragana (Caragana a. ‘Pendula’) is a unique, eye-catching top-grafted ornamental tree prized for its distinctive umbrella-shaped canopy and graceful, cascading branches . In late spring, it is adorned with small, bright yellow pea-like flowers hanging below the branches, adding cheerful colour and attracting pollinators . Its bright green, pinnately compound summer foliage turns yellow in fall, while smooth olive-green bark provides winter interest.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a strong, upright weeping habit on a standard graft, forming a refined specimen. Size varies by graft height, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 to 8 feet in height with a spread of 3 to 6 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms in mid-spring with yellow flowers. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 2, it is drought-tolerant once established and adapts to poor, alkaline soils, though intolerant of wet sites . Low-maintenance; prune as necessary in late winter. An outstanding choice for accent planting, small gardens, patios, entryways, or rock gardens where elegant form, vibrant blooms, and rugged durability are desired.
