Overview & Description

The Tiny Wine Ninebark (Physocarpus o. ‘SMPOTW’ PP26749), a standout from the Proven Winners ColorChoice® collection, is a compact and versatile dwarf shrub that adds striking color and texture to any garden. Featuring rich bronze-maroon foliage, this plant provides a bold contrast to green landscapes and maintains its vibrant hue throughout the growing season. In late spring, it is adorned with delicate pinkish-white blooms that line its branches, adding a soft, elegant touch to its dramatic appearance. These are followed by decorative red seed capsules that persist into fall, and the peeling bark provides winter interest.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits an upright, rounded to bushy, and compact growth habit with fine-textured, refined leaves. It is a dwarf shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 3 to 4 feet in height with a spread of 3 to 5 feet. It has a moderate growth rate.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 3, it is low-maintenance, disease-resistant, and adaptable to a wide range of well-drained soils, tolerating both dry and moist locations, clay soil, and urban pollution. It thrives in full sun for best foliage color. An outstanding choice for small spaces, borders, mass plantings, hedges, foundation plantings, or where colorful, season-long foliage, charming blooms, and easy-care nature are desired.
