Overview & Description

The Shirobana Spirea (Spiraea japonica ‘Shirobana’) is a compact, dense deciduous shrub prized for its unique floral display, where white, pink, and red flower clusters appear simultaneously on the same plant from July to August. Its small, lance-shaped leaves are light to dark green above and grayish-green underneath, sometimes taking on burgundy tones in autumn.

This variety exhibits a dense, compact, mounded to hemispherical growth habit. It typically reaches a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in height with a spread of 2 to 4 feet.

It blooms in summer. Hardy to Zone 4, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a wide range of soil types. It is low-maintenance, attracts butterflies and pollinators, and is rabbit resistant. It blooms on new wood and benefits from pruning in spring; removing spent flowers promotes continuous bloom. An excellent choice for borders, foundation plantings, low hedges, and mass plantings.
