Latin Name:Â Salvia guaraniticaÂ
Commonly known as Anise-Scented Sage or Hummingbird Sage, is a vigorous, aromatic plant prized for its tubular blue flowers and hummingbird appeal. Growing 3–5 feet (0.9–1.5 meters) tall, it’s ideal for cottage gardens, borders, and wildlife habitats.
This South American native produces 2-inch (5 cm) deep cobalt-blue flowers with black calyxes on arching spikes, blooming midsummer to frost. Its heart-shaped, anise-scented leaves release fragrance when brushed.
Thrives in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil. Heat-tolerant but benefits from afternoon shade in hot climates. Hardy in zones 7–10 (may die back in winter and resprout).
Perfect for pollinator gardens, pair with orange crocosmia, yellow rudbeckia, or white gaura.
