Overview & Description

The Renaissance Bridal Wreath Spirea (Spiraea x vanhouttei ‘Renaissance’) is a stunning and elegant shrub, known for its graceful, vase-shaped growth habit and strongly arching branches. In late spring, it is literally smothered with masses of tiny, pure white flowers in dense, rounded clusters that create a breathtaking, cascading display. Its blue-green to dark blue-green summer foliage provides a lush, fine-textured backdrop, turning vibrant shades of orange to orange-red in the fall for added seasonal interest. Selected by Bailey Nurseries, this cultivar is noted for its improved resistance to common foliar diseases like mildew and rust.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits an upright, vase-shaped, and fountain-like form with gracefully arching branches. It is a fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 5 to 7 feet in height with a spread of 6 to 8 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring primarily on old wood; prune immediately after flowering to avoid removing next year’s buds. Hardy to Zones 3, it is low-maintenance, deer-resistant, and drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in full sun and adapts well to a variety of well-drained soils. An outstanding choice for borders, hedges, mass plantings, or as a standout focal point where graceful form, spring blooms, and vibrant fall foliage are desired.
