Overview & Description

Northblue Blueberry (Vaccinium ‘Northblue’) is a dwarf, cold-hardy shrub prized for its large, dark, juicy, mid-season blueberries with a distinctive “wild taste.” The berries are superior for processing, baking, and eating fresh, offering exceptional flavour and versatility. White spring blooms add ornamental appeal, while glossy green foliage turns bright red in autumn, extending seasonal interest well into fall.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a dwarf, compact, rounded growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 36 – 48 inches in height with a spread of 40 inches.

Additional Notes

It blooms in spring, with fruit ripening in mid-season. Hardy to Zone 2, it prefers moist, acidic soil. Better yields are achieved with cross-pollination from another blueberry variety. An outstanding choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, and small gardens where large, flavourful “wild taste” blueberries, bright red fall foliage, and compact performance are desired.
