Overview & Description

New Blue Tamarix Juniper (Juniperus sabina tamariscifolia ‘New Blue’) is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its vivid, deep blue-green new spring growth that matures to an even richer blue foliage, offering exceptional colour intensity. This improved selection produces more ornamental berries than other Tamarix Junipers, adding extended seasonal interest. Its dense, spreading habit provides excellent ground coverage and textural contrast.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a low, spreading, ground-hugging growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 18 – 24 inches in height with a spread of 5 – 6 feet.

Additional Notes

It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought and heat tolerant once established and prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for borders, mass plantings, groundcover, specimen plantings, and xeriscapes where vivid blue-green foliage, ornamental berries, and low spreading form are desired.
