Overview & Description

The Neon Burst™ Dogwood (Cornus alba Neon Burst™ ‘ByBoughen’) is a compact, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub from the First Editions® collection, prized for its striking year-round appeal. Emerging coppery-bronze in spring, foliage matures to bright yellow-green to chartreuse for summer, before transforming into a spectacular mix of purple, red, yellow, and orange in autumn. Small white flower clusters appear in mid-spring, attracting pollinators. Its most dramatic feature is the glossy scarlet-red stems that provide vibrant winter interest.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a dense, rounded to upright habit. It is a relatively fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 to 5 feet in both height and spread, though it can occasionally reach 5-7 feet. Its compact size makes it suitable for planting under power lines.

Additional Notes

It blooms in mid-spring with small white flowers. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 2, it is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions, tolerant of urban pollution, and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It is a low-maintenance shrub. An outstanding choice for adding four seasons of interest as an accent, in mass plantings, borders, hedges, or foundation plantings.
