Latin Name: Mecardonia hybrida ‘Magic Carpet Yellow’Â
The Mecardonia ‘Magic Carpet Yellow’ is a low-growing, sun-loving plant (often grown as an annual) prized for its cheerful yellow blooms and trailing habit. Growing 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) tall with spreads up to 24 inches (60 cm), it’s ideal for ground cover, hanging baskets, and rock gardens.
This vigorous cultivar produces 0.5-inch (1 cm) bright yellow, snapdragon-like flowers that smother the foliage from spring to frost, creating a “carpet” of color. Its small, glossy green leaves stay attractive all season.
Thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. Heat- and drought-tolerant once established, but blooms best with regular watering. Deer-resistant and low-maintenance.
Perfect for slopes or container spillers, pair with blue scaevola, purple verbena, or silver dichondra.
