Overview & Description
The Goldmound Spirea (Spiraea x bumalda ‘Goldmound’) is a vibrant, compact deciduous shrub known for its striking golden-yellow foliage that adds a burst of colour to any landscape. Its small, ovate leaves emerge brilliant gold in spring, mature to yellow-green in summer, and finally transition to warm shades of yellow, orange, and sometimes red in autumn. This Spirea has a dense, mounded to compact, spreading habit. In summer it produces flat-topped clusters of small, showy, pale to bright pink flowers that bloom on new wood and attract butterflies and pollinators.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, mounded, and bushy growth habit. It is a moderately fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in height with a spread of 3 to 4 feet.
Additional Notes
