Overview & Description

The Common Caragana (Caragana arborescens) is an extremely hardy, tall deciduous shrub prized for its resilience and versatility in challenging landscapes. In early summer, it produces an abundance of bright yellow, pea-like flowers that attract pollinators and add cheerful colour. Its fine-textured, pinnately compound green leaflets and olive green, glossy stems provide a soft, airy appearance throughout the growing season. This tough shrub branches freely when pruned heavily after flowering, making it ideal for formal hedges and dense screens.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits an upright, multi-stemmed, vase-shaped growth habit. It is a fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 13 feet in height with a spread of 8 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms in early summer. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 2, it tolerates drought, dry, and alkaline soils but does not tolerate wet sites. Deer Resistant. An outstanding choice for hedges, windbreaks, shelterbelts, and xeriscapes where extreme hardiness and low-maintenance performance are desired.
