Overview & Description
The Cesky Gold Dwarf Birch (Betula x plettkei) is a compact, slow-growing cultivar prized for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage that maintains bright colour throughout summer. Small, rounded leaves emerge luminous yellow-green and hold their colour well, even in full sun, with minimal scorching. In autumn, foliage turns a softer yellow before dropping. This deciduous shrub forms a dense, mounded habit, providing a long season of bright, cheerful colour without outgrowing its space.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, mounded, and compact growth habit. It forms a tidy miniature shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
Deciduous with luminous yellow-green spring and summer foliage turning softer yellow in fall. Extremely cold-hardy to Zone 3 and adaptable, it thrives in well-drained soil and tolerates a range of conditions. Low-maintenance. Unlike some birches, it is not grown for bark. An outstanding choice for small gardens, rockeries, foundation plantings, low hedges, or where exceptional leaf colour and miniature scale are desired.
