Overview & Description

The Borealis Honeyberry Haskap (Lonicera caerulea Borealis) is a cold-hardy, fast-growing shrub known for producing sweet and flavorful berries early in the season. This variety from the University of Saskatchewan’s breeding program is a reliable choice for northern gardens, prized for its rich flavor and nutritional benefits. Its berries are perfect for fresh eating, baking, or preserving. It has attractive foliage and an upright growth habit.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a vigorous, upright to spreading growth habit. It forms a medium-sized shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 to 5 feet in height with a similar spread. It has a fast growth rate.

Additional Notes

It blooms in early spring, with fruit ripening in early to mid-summer. Self-sterile; it requires a pollinator for optimal fruit production. Aurora is an excellent companion, enhancing cross-pollination and significantly boosting yields. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 2, thriving in full sun to part shade. An outstanding choice for home gardens where cold tolerance, early fruiting, and delicious, sweet berries are desired.
