Overview & Description
The Boreal Blizzard Honeyberry Haskap (Lonicera caerulea Boreal Blizzard) is a standout variety from the University of Saskatchewan’s breeding program, known for its exceptionally large, flavorful berries—the largest of all haskap cultivars at 2.8-3.9 grams. Its berries are tender and juicy with a delicious flavor, having half the acidity and one of the highest sugar levels of any haskap. Small yellow flowers appear in spring. This vigorous, productive shrub has excellent resistance to mildew.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a neat, tidy, rounded to upright growth habit. It forms a medium-sized shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 5 to 8 feet in height with a spread of 5 to 6 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring, with fruit ripening in mid to late July, extending the honeyberry season. Self-sterile; plant with Boreal Beast or Boreal Beauty for optimal pollination. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 2, thriving in full sun to part shade. Excellent for fresh eating, preserves, baking, and freezing.
