Overview & Description
The Arctic Fire™ Red Twig Dogwood (Cornus stolonifera ‘Farrow’ PP18523) is a compact, dwarf cultivar from Proven Winners prized for its exceptionally bright, fire-red stems providing brilliant winter colour. Unlike many dogwoods, it is sterile, producing no flowers or messy fruit, focusing its energy on vivid stem colour and tidy foliage. Its oval leaves are dark green, turning reddish-purple in autumn before dropping to reveal the stunning stems. This non-suckering variety maintains a neat habit.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, low-mounded, and compact growth habit without the aggressive spreading of species dogwoods. It forms a tidy, manageable shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 3 to 4 feet in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
Sterile, so it produces no significant flowers or fruit. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 3, it is adaptable and low-maintenance, thriving in wet to average soils and full sun to partial shade. Best stem colour develops in full sun; for optimal colour, prune by removing older stems in spring.
