Overview & Description

The Beauty of Moscow Lilac (Syringa vulgaris ‘Krasavitsa Moskvy’) is a stunning Russian cultivar renowned for its exquisite, fully double white flowers. Created by hybridizer Leonid Kolesnikov in 1947, it features long, dense panicles of pale pink buds that open to ruffled, pearl-white blossoms with a delicate, sweet fragrance. Its heart-shaped, dark green foliage emerges burgundy-tinged in spring before maturing.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a strong, upright, multi-stemmed growth habit that becomes spreading and vase-shaped with age. It is a moderately fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 10 to 12 feet in height with a spread of 6 to 10 feet. It can be expected to live for approximately 30 years under ideal conditions.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring, slightly later than many French hybrids, and the flowers are excellent for cutting. It attracts butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds but is deer resistant. Hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. An outstanding choice for foundation plantings, hedges, or as a fragrant specimen where romantic elegance and purity of colour are desired.
