Overview & Description
Quaking/Trembling Aspen (Populus tremuloides) is a native deciduous tree prized for its distinctive, fluttering foliage that “quakes” or trembles in the slightest breeze, creating a soft, rustling sound. It has a pyramidal form when young, maturing to a rounded shape. Greenish bark accents the small, rounded leaves, which turn a beautiful deep yellow to orange in autumn, offering a stunning seasonal display.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a pyramidal form when young, maturing to a rounded, spreading growth habit. It is a fast-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 23 – 33 feet in height with a spread of 20 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring with inconspicuous catkins. Hardy to Zone 2, it tolerates most soil conditions. An outstanding choice for large landscapes, naturalization areas, reclamation sites, and wildlife habitats where fast-growing, native performance, quaking foliage, and golden-orange fall colour are desired.
