Overview & Description
The Tinkerbelle Apple (Malus ‘Tinkerbelle’) is a unique dwarf columnar apple variety developed by crossing ‘Hongro’ and ‘Maypole’ and released in 2015. It is prized as an exceptional pollinizer for apple orchards and gardens, showing very high fruit set rates of 71-95% when planted with major varieties. The tree features beautiful pinkish-white blossoms in spring, followed by small red over green-yellow apples with an ovoid shape, smooth skin, and no waxy bloom.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a columnar, upright growth habit with weak tree vigor and almost no lateral branching . Mature height reaches up to 16 feet for larger specimens, with a very narrow spread of only 24 – 36 inches.
Additional Notes
It blooms in mid-spring, with harvest in late August . Hardy to Zone 2. Prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Apples store well for a couple of months after harvest and are excellent for fresh eating, cooking, and making jellies. Also known as Tinkerbelle Applecrab.
