Overview & Description
The Skandia Juniper (Juniperus sabina ‘Skandia’) is a compact, spreading evergreen celebrated for its dense, feathery, bright green foliage that creates a lush, textured appearance. Its soft, scale-like needles maintain vibrant color throughout the year, with little to no winter bronzing, providing reliable year-round beauty. This hardy shrub is generally resistant to common juniper diseases and pests.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, low-spreading to compact growth habit. It is a slow to moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in height with a spread of 4 to 6 feet. Its dense branching and controlled spread make it more manageable than larger juniper cultivars.
Additional Notes
It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating poor, dry, and alkaline conditions. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. An excellent choice for mass plantings, erosion control on slopes, borders, rock gardens, or as a filler in mixed plantings where a durable, attractive groundcover with reliable texture and structure is desired.
