Overview & Description
Royal Frost® Birch (Betula x ‘Royal Frost’) is a stunning deciduous tree prized for its upright pyramidal form and exceptional foliage colour. Serrated purple foliage emerges a rich burgundy in spring, holds its dark colour throughout summer, and turns a brilliant reddish-orange in fall, offering a spectacular seasonal display. The beautiful exfoliating white bark provides striking winter contrast, making this tree a true four-season standout.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits an upright, pyramidal, well-branched growth habit. It is a moderate to fast-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 30 – 40 feet in height with a spread of 20 – 26 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring with inconspicuous catkins. Hardy to Zone 3, it prefers moist, well-drained soil. Prune only in summer when in full leaf as needed. An outstanding choice for specimen plantings, residential landscapes, and four-season gardens where burgundy-purple summer foliage, reddish-orange fall colour, exfoliating white bark, and pyramidal form are desired.
