Overview & Description

Red Prince Weigela (Weigela florida ‘Red Prince’) is a hardy, deciduous shrub prized for its rich, bright red tubular blooms that hold their colour exceptionally well. This reliable rebloomer flowers profusely in spring and then again in late summer, providing two waves of vibrant colour. The bright green, pointy foliage and upright branches that arch gracefully with age add structural interest throughout the growing season.

This variety exhibits an upright, rounded, arching growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 – 5 feet in height with a spread of 4 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms in spring and again in late summer. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought tolerant once established and prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for borders, mass plantings, specimens, foundation plantings, and hummingbird gardens where rich red blooms, reblooming performance, and graceful arching form are desired.
