The Red Ace Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa ‘Red Ace’) is a hardy, bushy deciduous shrub with a compact, mounding habit. It features small, pinnate dark green leaves that provide a lush backdrop for its profuse, saucer-shaped blooms. The flowers are a striking vermillion-red with a yellow reverse, though they tend to fade to orange or burnt orange in hot, sunny weather and as they mature.

This variety exhibits a dense, mounded, and compact growth habit. It is a slow to medium-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 2 to 2.5 feet in height and 3 to 4 feet in width. It is well-suited for small spaces.

It blooms continuously from late spring through early fall. Exceptionally hardy to Zone 3 , it is drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and adaptable to a wide range of well-drained soils, including poor soils . It thrives in full sun but flowers last longer with some afternoon shade. It is deer-resistant, attracts pollinators, and is tolerant of urban pollution and coastal conditions.
