Overview & Description
Prairie Cascade Weeping Willow (Salix x ‘Prairie Cascade’) is a hardy, graceful, weeping willow developed at the Morden Research Station, prized for its rounded form and cascading golden branches. The glossy, narrow, green foliage creates a soft, flowing appearance, adding elegant movement to the landscape. This fast-growing tree has an aggressive root system, making it best suited for large open areas where it can spread naturally.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a rounded, weeping, cascading growth habit. It is a fast-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 33 feet in height with a spread of 30 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring with inconspicuous catkins. Hardy to Zone 3, it tolerates most soil types but prefers moist sites. Due to its aggressive root system, it should be planted away from foundations, sewers, and water lines. An outstanding choice for large open areas, parks, pond edges, naturalized landscapes, and moisture-rich sites where graceful weeping form, fast growth, and exceptional hardiness are desired.
