Overview & Description

The Northcountry Blueberry (Vaccinium ‘Northcountry’) is a popular, compact half-high hybrid blueberry prized for its sweet, mild-flavored berries and outstanding ornamental appeal. In mid-spring, it produces clusters of small, white to shell pink, urn-shaped flowers that attract pollinators. These are followed by abundant crops of sweet, sky-blue fruit ready for harvest in mid-summer, perfect for fresh eating, baking, or preserves. Its glossy dark green summer foliage turns a brilliant scarlet red in autumn, providing stunning seasonal color.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a compact, bushy, upright-spreading to mounded growth habit with a relatively fine texture. It is a fast-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 18 to 24 inches in height with a spread of 24 to 36 inches. It can be expected to live for approximately 20 years under ideal conditions.

Additional Notes

It blooms in mid-spring with fruit ripening in mid-summer. This cultivar is not fully self-fertile and requires a different blueberry variety planted nearby for best yields. Exceptionally cold-hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun to part shade and requires acidic, well-drained, organic-rich soil. An outstanding choice for edible landscaping, or small gardens where delicious fruit and multi-season ornamental value are desired.
