Overview & Description
The Lydia Broom (Genista ‘Lydia’) is a stunning, compact deciduous shrub prized for its spectacular spring display, where masses of golden yellow, pea-shaped flowers blanket the plant, almost entirely obscuring its slender, mounding green branches. The green foliage is barely visible beneath the profusion of blooms, creating a vibrant, eye-catching mound of colour. This tough, resilient shrub is well-suited for challenging sites, tolerating poor, sandy, alkaline, or salty soils.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a low, mounding, spreading growth habit with slender, arching green branches. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 24 inches in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought-tolerant once established and thrives in full sun with well-drained, sandy, or alkaline soils. An outstanding choice for rock gardens, slopes, borders, mass plantings, and xeriscapes where a brilliant blanket of golden yellow blooms and tough, low-maintenance performance are desired.
