Latin Name: Lotus berthelotiiÂ
The Lotus Vine ‘Berhelotti’, also called Parrot’s Beak, is a trailing evergreen perennial prized for its vibrant, claw-shaped flowers and silvery needle-like foliage. Growing 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) tall with trails up to 3 feet (90 cm), it’s ideal for hanging baskets, rock gardens, and containers.
This Canary Islands native produces 1-inch (2.5 cm) fiery orange-red blooms resembling parrot beaks in late spring to summer, contrasting with its soft, silver-green foliage. Hummingbird-friendly but rarely flowers in humid climates.
Thrives in full sun and well-draining, sandy soil. Drought-tolerant but frost-sensitive (hardy in zones 10–11).
Perfect for Mediterranean or xeric designs, pair with blue agave, lavender, or sedum.
