Overview & Description
Flowerfull Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens ‘Flowerfull’) is a compact, reblooming smooth hydrangea prized for its exceptionally large, dense, mophead flower clusters that cover the plant from early summer until frost. Its blooms emerge a soft lime-green, mature to pure white, and may develop subtle pink or green tones as they age. Unlike older smooth hydrangeas, Flowerful produces flowers on both old and new wood, ensuring reliable blooming even after harsh winters. Its sturdy, upright stems hold the large flower heads without flopping, even after heavy rain. The dark green, heart-shaped foliage provides an attractive backdrop and is noted for its excellent disease resistance.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a compact, rounded, bushy growth habit. It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 30 – 36 inches in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
It blooms continuously from early summer through fall. Hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, organically rich soil. It is low-maintenance, deer resistant, and attracts pollinators. Prune in late winter or early spring; because it blooms on new wood, pruning will not sacrifice flowers. An outstanding choice for cut flower gardens, small landscapes, and northern gardens where reliable, long-lasting white blooms and compact performance are desired.
