Overview & Description
Dwarf Blue Scotch Pine (Pinus sylvestris ‘Glauca Nana’) is a slow-growing, rounded evergreen conifer prized for its rich, blue-green needles that add cool-toned colour and fine texture to the landscape. This low-grafted dwarf cultivar maintains a compact, rounded form naturally, and pinching new growth “candles” encourages an even tighter shape. Its adaptable nature and striking colour make it an excellent choice for small-space gardens and foundation plantings.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a slow-growing, rounded, compact growth habit. It is a dwarf conifer, typically reaching a mature size of about 4 – 5 feet in both height and spread.
Additional Notes
It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 2, it is adaptable to many soil conditions and drought tolerant once established in moist, well-drained soil. Pinch new growth “candles” to maintain a tighter, rounded form. An outstanding choice for foundation plantings, rock gardens, borders, small gardens, and xeriscapes where rich blue-green needles, compact rounded form, and slow-growing performance are desired.
