Overview & Description
The Cologreen Juniper (Juniperus scopulorum ‘Cologreen’) is a robust, columnar evergreen prized for its dense, luminous green foliage that maintains its rich hue through all seasons. Its bright green, scale-like needles are tightly held on upright branches, creating a fine-textured, uniform appearance. This hardy juniper is an excellent alternative to traditional cedars, offering strong vertical form with exceptional adaptability.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, upright, columnar growth habit. It is a moderate-growing conifer, typically reaching a mature size of about 10 to 15 feet in height with a spread of 4 to 6 feet. Its narrow profile makes it ideal for smaller spaces where a vertical accent is desired without excessive spread.
Additional Notes
It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, including poor, dry, and alkaline conditions. Once established, it is drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and tolerant of urban pollution. An outstanding choice for windbreaks, privacy screens, borders, foundation plantings, or as a focal point where reliable structure, vibrant year-round color, and low-maintenance performance are desired.
