Overview & Description

The Broadmoor Juniper (Juniperus sabina ‘Broadmoor’) is a rugged, spreading evergreen that forms an attractive carpet of soft, rich green, scale-like foliage, maintaining its vibrant colour year-round. It develops a dense, low-growing mat with slightly arching branches that create a lush, textured appearance. This exceptionally hardy variety withstands harsh winters, drought, and poor soils while remaining generally pest and disease resistant.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a dense, spreading to prostrate growth habit. It forms a low-growing groundcover, typically reaching a mature size of about 1 to 2 feet in height with a spread of 6 to 8 feet. Its trailing branches root where they touch the soil, providing excellent coverage and erosion control.

Additional Notes

It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a wide range of conditions including poor, dry, and alkaline soils. It is deer resistant and drought-tolerant once established. An outstanding choice for mass plantings, erosion control on slopes and banks, foundation beds, or as a natural border where a low-maintenance, durable groundcover with year-round color is desired.
