Overview & Description

The Fairy Queen Spirea (Spiraea trilobata ‘Fairy Queen’) is a charming, compact shrub known for its dense, globe-shaped form and gracefully arching branches . In late spring, it is smothered in stunning, rounded clusters of pure white flowers that create a soft, elegant snow-like display. Its small, three-lobed, dark bluish-green leaves provide a lush backdrop during the growing season, turning an outstanding coppery-bronze to yellow-orange in the fall for a striking autumnal show.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a dense, rounded, and compact mounded growth habit. It typically reaches a mature size of about 3 feet in height with an equal spread of 3 feet. It grows at a fast rate and, under ideal conditions, can be expected to live for approximately 20 years.

Additional Notes

It blooms in late spring on old wood, so pruning should be done immediately after flowering to avoid removing next year’s flower buds. Hardy to Zone 2, it is low-maintenance and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but is drought-tolerant once established and is highly tolerant of urban pollution. This fine-textured, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub attracts butterflies and is resistant to deer. An excellent choice for borders, foundation plantings, mass plantings, or small garden spaces where year-round interest, structure, and charm are desired.
