Latin Name: Cuphea hybrid ‘Vermillionaire’Â
The Cuphea ‘Vermillionaire’, also called Firecracker Plant, is a floriferous, heat-loving plant (often grown as an annual) prized for its torrent of tubular orange-red blooms and hummingbird appeal. Growing 18–30 inches (45–75 cm) tall and wide, it’s ideal for containers, borders, and pollinator gardens.
This sterile hybrid produces 1-inch (2.5 cm) fiery flowers with yellow tips continuously from spring to frost, without setting seed. Its glossy, lance-shaped leaves stay lush even in intense heat.
Thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. Drought-tolerant once established but blooms best with regular watering. Low-maintenance and deer-resistant.
Perfect for tropical-style displays, pair with purple fountain grass, blue salvia, or golden lantana.
