Ornamental grasses fall into two categories herbaceous or evergreen. The type determines the pruning.
Herbaceous grasses need to be cut back annually. Cut back in late winter / early spring before the new growth starts in the spring. This allows for enjoyment of the seed heads which add interest to the fall and winter landscape.
Evergreen grasses don’t require much but a quick tidy-up. Removing any damaged or dead leaves prior to new growth emerging.
