Overview & Description
Pipestone Plum (Prunus salicina x amer. ‘Pipestone’) is a hardy, large, freestone plum prized for its red skin with a golden blush and sweet, juicy, yellow flesh. The skin peels easily, making it a favourite for fresh eating and processing. Ripening in late summer, this versatile plum is excellent for jams, jellies, and freezing, offering abundant flavour for home preserves.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits an upright, spreading, rounded growth habit. It is a moderate-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 10 – 13 feet in height with a spread of 8 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring with white flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it requires pollination with an American plum group variety. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, and cold-climate gardens where large, sweet, juicy, freestone plums with easy-peel skin are desired for fresh eating, jams, jellies, and freezing.
