Latin Name: Muehlenbeckia complexa

The Maidenhair Vine or Angel Vine, is a fast-growing, twining perennial prized for its delicate foliage and versatile habit. Growing 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) tall with trails up to 15 feet (4.5 meters), it’s ideal for topiaries, trellises, or ground cover.

This New Zealand native features tiny, round green leaves on wire-like stems, creating a lacy effect. Inconspicuous greenish-white flowers may appear in summer, followed by small white berries (on female plants).

Thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Drought-tolerant once established but prefers moderate moisture. Hardy in zones 7–10; often grown as a houseplant in cooler climates.

Perfect for fairy gardens or living sculptures, pair with ferns, ivy, or succulents.

Key Features:

  • Foliage: Semi-evergreen, fine-textured

  • Growth: Vigorous but manageable

  • Uses: Bonsai, hanging baskets, erosion control

  • Caution: Can become invasive in warm climates.
