Overview & Description

Mount Royal Plum (Prunus domestica ‘Mount Royal’) is considered the best blue plum, prized for its extremely hardy nature and late-summer harvest. This freestone plum features beautiful blue skin and firm, yellow flesh that is excellent for eating, processing, or drying. Its spreading canopy provides an attractive form in the landscape while producing abundant, high-quality fruit.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a spreading, rounded, open growth habit. It is a moderate-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 13 feet in height with a spread of  8 feet.

Additional Notes

It blooms in spring with white flowers. Hardy to Zone 2, it is self-pollinating but benefits from cross-pollination with other European plum varieties for improved yields. Prefers well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, and cold-climate gardens where the best blue plum, firm yellow flesh, and freestone convenience are desired.
