Latin Name:  Helichrysum petiolare 

The Licorice Plant or Trailing Dusty Miller, is a silver-foliaged, trailing perennial prized for its felt-like leaves and drought resistance. Growing 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) tall with a spread of 3–5 feet (0.9–1.5 meters), it’s ideal for containers, hanging baskets, and ground cover.

This South African native features heart-shaped, woolly leaves in silver-gray or variegated (white/green) hues, with a subtle licorice scent when crushed. Though it produces tiny cream flowers in summer, it’s primarily grown for its ornamental foliage.

Thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Heat-tolerant and deer-resistant, but frost-sensitive (hardy in zones 9–11).

Perfect for contrast plantings, pair with purple petunias, blue lobelia, or red geraniums.
