Dexter Jackson Dwarf Apple (Malus ‘Dexter Jackson’) is a small, flowering ornamental tree prized for its showy spring display and edible, amber-gold apples streaked with red . In early spring, striking red flower buds open into stunning clusters of fragrant white blossoms before the leaves emerge, attracting bees and birds . The dark green, pointy foliage turns a soft yellow in autumn, adding seasonal interest . The sweet, crisp apples ripen from late summer to early fall and are excellent for fresh eating and cooking . This cultivar is noted for its resistance to fireblight and apple scab .
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a shapely, upright, narrow form with gracefully arching branches . It is a dwarf tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 20 feet in height with a spread of only 5 feet. It grows at a medium rate and can live for 50 years or more.
Additional Notes
It blooms in early spring. Hardy to Zone 4, it requires full sun and is adaptable to most well-drained soils, tolerating urban pollution. It does not tolerate standing water. The fruit can be messy if allowed to drop on walkways. An outstanding choice for accent planting, home orchards, edible landscapes, and small gardens where disease resistance and narrow form are desired.
