Overview & Description
Casinoâ„¢ Apricot (Prunus mandshurica x ‘DurGarfield’) is a very hardy, freestone apricot prized for its yellow fruit with a red blush that ripens in mid-summer. This Manchurian/Siberian apricot group variety produces flavorful fruit that is good for canning and jams, offering excellent cold hardiness for northern gardeners. Its attractive fruit and spring blossoms add ornamental value to edible landscapes.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits an upright, rounded, spreading growth habit. It is a moderate-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 13 – 16 feet in height with a spread of 12 – 13 feet.
Additional Notes
It blooms in early spring with white to pink flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it is self-pollinating but cross-pollination with another apricot or Nanking Cherry is recommended for better production. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. An outstanding choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, and cold-climate gardens where very hardy, freestone yellow apricots with red blush are desired for canning and jams.
