Overview & Description
The Blazing Elfâ„¢ Amur Maple (Acer ginnala ‘Bron Blazing Elf’) is a finely branched, compact, dense, rounded form of Amur Maple prized for its outstanding seasonal colour and manageable size. In spring, it produces sprays of small, fragrant yellow flowers that add delicate charm and attract pollinators. These are followed by showy, vivid red samaras (winged seeds) that contrast beautifully with the foliage . Its glossy green, three-lobed leaves transform into a brilliant, vivid red in autumn, creating a spectacular seasonal finale.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits a dense, compact, rounded growth habit with fine branching. It is a slow to moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 8 feet in both height and spread. Its compact form makes it ideal for smaller gardens, foundation plantings, and mixed borders.
Additional Notes
It blooms in spring. Hardy to Zone 3, it prefers moist, acidic, well-drained soil and thrives in full sun to partial shade. To avoid excessive sap bleeding, prune only in summer when the plant is in full leaf. An outstanding choice for specimens, hedges, mass plantings, or where vivid fall colour and compact form are desired.
